The Internet in Ten Years Time – What Might be Possible?

Compared to just a few short years ago, the internet is a very different place right now with speedier connectivity gradually transforming the way we use it. So what of the future for the Internet when we get to, say, 2020? We’re already seeing things being done very differently by people, with watching catch-up TV and streaming movies becoming one of the most popular pastimes.

That’s all set to become an even greater part of everyday life as we approach 2020, thanks to improving broadband networks and much faster connectivity. While it’s currently possible to get speeds of up to 100MB presently, that is likely to increase dramatically in the next few years as fibre optic cabling replaces the older more outdated copper wire networks.

Social media in 2020

In a few short years, it’s entirely likely that well all be using these faster connection rates to enjoy features including video calling with much more ease than it works now. Added to that is the fact that you’ll be able to do it from any place too, meaning that even the most remote places will probably have a generous broadband Internet supply.

Boosting all of this is the capacity of the mobile broadband networks, which are set to improve beyond all comprehension. With successive updates to these services, it’s likely that well soon be able to enjoy much more comprehensive coverage, along with a much faster speed of service. While mobile broadband isn’t too great for large downloads at present, by the year 2020 it is likely to be able to cope with just about anything.

Another aspect of the vastly improved Internet network by the year 2020 is likely to be the ability to exploit the power of cloud computing. This is a virtual world that will allow you to dispense with a traditional computer that you may have in the home now. As long as you can get Internet access you’ll be able to access all of your files and folders on a virtual server, known as the Cloud.

This will be a particularly innovative new way of working and enjoying social activities, without the need for expensive hardware such as computers and monitors that we have to buy presently. Little wonder then that the tablet computer is becoming so popular with people, and by the year 2020 it’s probable that we’ll be using variations on this theme to tap into the charms of the Internet, no matter where we are.

Paying for goods and services will also be transformed, with the likes of Near Field Communication allowing us to swipe our digital devices to buy everything from a sandwich through to a new car. What’s more, as this technology becomes more commonplace, it’s also likely that prices for products and services related to the Internet will come down too. Add all of these exciting developments together and the world could be a very different place when it comes to connectivity in 2020.
